Dear Westlake Academy Parents,

ACT/SAT

➢    ➢    If you are a Junior and have not signed up yet to take the SAT or ACT, you need to do so very soon.
➢    Deadline to sign-up for June 12th ACT is May 7th. http://www.actstudent.org/regist/index.html
Our goal is to have 8 schools, 3 reach, 3 target and 2 safety, selected by the end of the Junior year.  Your SAT and ACT results are helpful in finalizing your list.


Junior College Application Workshop

➢    Watch for announcements for a 3 evening workshop I will hold before the end of the school year to help Juniors prepare to write college essays and short answers, resumes, and fill out applications over the summer. 


Summer Programs

➢    Texas A&M is hosting The Texas Governor's School in Arts and Humanities for Urban Leadership at Texas A&M University in College Station. It is an innovative program for high achieving high school students. It is an exciting three-week intensive residential summer educational opportunity that includes trips to area museums, theater arts performances, visiting artists, films, digital media projects, and four dynamic college-level courses. The program is open to all qualified Texas public high school students who will be in 11th or 12th grade in the 2010-2011 school year. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the arts, humanities, and urban leadership. ➢    The University of Alabama is offering 2010 Capstone Business Leadership Academy, a summer program for academically excellent high school students, June 12-23 and July 12-21.
•    Qualifications: Current junior, 3.4 GPA, 27 ACT, 1210 SAT, or 140 PSAT, Interested in Business. 
•    Cost: $350.

➢    St. Hugh’s College at the University of Oxford offers a special summer school program especially for IB students.  You will have an opportunity to work on your EE or TOK essay with the help of tutor who is a member of The Oxford University.  Go to www.sthughs-summerschool.info for more information. 
➢    Baylor University is offering SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS for grades 9-12.  Camp enrollment is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Visit www.baylor.edu/busmc for details.
